Cisco Smart Operations and TrustSec Enhancements
Device Classifier for AutoSmartPorts: New classification infrastructure module will provide more visibility to switch on the device. Improved sorting function in the device also provides features such as ASP. Switch collected from protocols such as MAC OUI, Cisco Discovery Protocol, Link Layer Discovery attribute categories transmitting device information agreements and dynamic host configuration protocol endpoint device data and information. Classified use these properties and pre-defined classification rules / profiles to determine the endpoint device and the storage device information in the database.

Enhanced device classification provides enhanced device visibility new devices: Cisco IP cameras, Cisco wireless LAN controllers, Apple equipment, third-party phones and access points, third-party printers, Cisco telephony and conferencing systems, Cisco access points, Cisco Digital media Player, game consoles, and other smart phones.
Configuring through AutoSmartPorts, automatically applies predefined interface configuration, when a device is connected to the interface of the interface, and removes the configuration process when the device is disconnected. ASP can now use the device classification (DC) for the device category, and perform it for these new types of equipment associated with the configuration macro.

Critical VLAN support for voice devices: when an IP phone successfully authenticates on a port, the authentication server puts the phone into the voice domain.
Network Edge Access Topology (NEAT) enhancement: In the default state, when a supplicant switch is connected to an authenticator switch that has BPDU guard enabled.
Support for Cisco TrustSec Security Group Tag (SGT) Exchange Protocol (SXP) version 2 and Enhancements: Tagging packets with SGTs requires hardware support. You might have devices in your network that, while capable of participating in Cisco TrustSec authentication, lack the hardware capability to tag packets with SGTs.

Based on the license’s type, Cisco IOS Software activates the appropriate feature set. License types can be changed, or upgraded, to activate a different feature set. As a leading Cisco license wholesaler, 3Anetwork.com keeps a huge stock of Cisco routers/switches/firewall/wireless license. In many cases, we can deliver these switches in 2 business days at very good price to worldwide.

Licensing and Packaging Q&A on Cisco Catalyst 3750-X/3560-X Switches

Q: A mixed stack of LAN Base switch with IP Base or IP Services feature set can work?
A: The Cisco Catalyst 3750X Series Switches with LAN Base feature set can only stack with other Cisco Catalyst 3750X Series LAN Base switches. The same rule applies to IP Base and IP Services as well.

Q: Do all models can support these three(LAN base, IP base, IP services) feature sets?
A: The 12-port and 24-port SFP based models can only be ordered with IP Base or IP Services licenses. Therefore, in order to stack with LAN Base models, they need to be configured in LAN Base mode from the CLI.

Q: What is Cisco Software Activation, and how does it work?
A: Cisco Software Activation is the mechanism used to activate software features and components on various Cisco platforms. Cisco Software Activation is used to generate a unique license key for a feature set on a specific device and activate that functionality. Software activation authorizes and activates the Cisco IOS Software feature set. A special file contained in the switch, called a license file, is examined by Cisco IOS Software when the switch is powered on. Based on the license’s type, Cisco IOS Software activates the appropriate feature set. License types can be changed or upgraded to enable a different feature set.

Q: Is manual software activation required when a new switch is purchased with the LAN Base, IP Base, or IP Services feature set?
A: No, new switches will be shipped with the appropriate license keys preinstalled based on the specified feature set at the time of ordering. If customers choose to upgrade to a different feature set later, they can order the upgrade and install the license to unlock that feature set.

Q: What are the different types of feature sets?
A: There are three types of software licenses: LAN Base, IP Base, and IP Services. LAN Base is only supported on the Cisco Catalyst 3750-X, 3650-X, and Cisco Catalyst 2K switches.
  • LAN Base: Enables basic Layer 2 forwarding and IPv4/IPv6 switch management.
  • IP Base: Enables Layer 2 forwarding, IPv6 management, and basic Layer 3 routing, including Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) stub and Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) stub mode.
  • IP Services: Includes IP Base and enables advanced IPv4/IPv6 Layer 3 routing such as EIGRP, Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), WCCP, VRF-lite, PBR, and IPv4 multicast routing.
Q: How is a PAK delivered?
A: Delivery of PAKs can be paper based or electronic. Paper-based PAKs are sent on a piece of paper by postal mail to customers.

Q: What is an eDelivery PAK?
A: eDelivery is Cisco’s process for electronic fulfillment and subsequent asset management of customer orders for software license entitlement documentation. With eDelivery, users can more efficiently manage and download their product activation keys (PAKs). Once a customer has placed an order for an eDelivery product, they receive an email containing a link to the eDelivery application. Customers access the application using their Cisco.com user profile, user ID, and password and download a claim certificate in pdf format. The claim certificate contains the product activation key (PAK) number.

Q: Do PAKs expire?
A: No. PAKs do not expire.

Q: Can one PAK be used for multiple license keys?
A: Yes, a PAK can be purchased that generates any specified number of licenses. The total number of licenses the PAK can generate is specified during the ordering process. Regardless of the number of upgrades purchased, the customer will only receive one PAK per switch type, which can be used to generate multiple licenses.

Q: What is required to obtain a license?
A: Product activation key (PAK), the product ID (PID), and the serial number (SN) are required for key generation functions.

This functionality is also available through SNMP for integration with standards-based network management tools. For a larger number of switches, the Cisco License Manager discovers and manages the licenses for up to 10,000 switches.
Q: What happens if I cannot transfer my licenses right away to the replacement device?
A: A temporary licenses can be used to have the desired functionality on the device for 60 days.
Q: Is a new software activation key required to enable crypto on an existing noncrypto switch?
